At the time this event took place a friend of some of the youth had committed suicide. Our panelists address the issue of suicide and forgiveness. The last comments made were not picked up on the audio very well, you may have to turn up your volume to hear them.
The idea that suicide is an unforgivable sin is based in a works based salvation. However, the bible teaches that God's grace is sufficient for all of our sins. Jesus died on the cross to pay the penalty for all sin. We do not need to continually ask for forgiveness every time we sin. Confession of individual sins is good for us and aids in our perspective of God's sovereignty and our need for His grace. Like a child admitting something to a loving parent. The confession doesn't make the parent forgive. Their love does.
Suicide is a faithless act and therefore sin (Romans 14:23). And like all our sins, it was paid for by Christ on the cross.
The next question asked was somewhat related. Is self-sacrifice the same as suicide? Or if you, by killing yourself, help others does that make up for a wrong you have done? The question was inspired by a recent movie, but it opened a great discussion on forgiveness and atonement for sin.
