Often people will comment on what appears to be drastic differences in God's personality between the Old Testament and the New. The Old Testament is largely historical, and much like our own history books the events that stand out the most are the wars, the tragedies, the larger than life occurrences. We tend to see a Global Flood, Sodom and Gomorrah wiped out, Jericho demolished, and tribes nearly wiped out during the Israelites' taking of the Promised Land. With stories like Job and accounts of God's judgment using Babylon to conquer His own people, many folks see God in the Old testament as mean or mostly doing acts of destruction.
However, in the New Testament, while judgment is mentioned, by and large it seems that God is described over and over again as loving, merciful, kind, patient, and forgiving. Many people have been confused by this seeming contradiction and some have been led astray from faith.
